this was my first work trip..
the drive up wasn't very remarkable though we passed by some places of interest
but i loved liverpool!
and i'm so glad it was a very sunny evening
our hotel is a converted warehouse, right at (Albert Dock)
the original architecture of the ceiling, beams, and walls had been preserved but the rooms were really quite spacious and comfortable
the only problem was that the corridors are a maze.. we got quite tired trying to find our rooms
the view from my room:
This was how the Irish immigrants came to England
and then, later on, how, driven by extreme poverty, the local women tried to leave via Russian sailors
thankfully, Albert Dock is now a spruced up place for the arts and dining
the good weather and traffic conditions landed us in the city a few hours before we were due
but none of us had been to liverpool.. and at first we didn't know where to go
because it was only famous for football and The Beatles
we started strolling aimlessly and ended up at the Wartime House Museum
i thought the living conditions were better than villages in Burma
the only thing that caught my interest was the fact that it was illegal for people to keep pets because of food shortage during the war
we also had a walk through the Tate Liverpool.. which was.. erm.. interesting
i just didn't get how a piece of framed velvet cloth could be called art.. or what looked like my room in an untidy state was an installation
and there were some positively gross exhibits dealing with so-called self expression/exploration
we somehow missed out on the Beatles Museum .. i think because a few of us got hungry
so i munched through a cold farm-egg sandwich watching the sunset on the River Mersey
the view from The Pumphouse, the designate meeting place
i'm really glad those ships are not going to set sail again
just like singapore, liverpool decided to allow approved graffitti on boarded up houses to clean up the city
this artist is obviously very into pink
did you know that people from liverpool are called liverpudlians?!
and that.. liverpool is the European Capital of Culture 2008?!
(though everyone of my colleagues scoffed at that)
