Switzerland: Day 2 - Berne

(Photos taken with Panasonic DMC-FX01)

My tiny room..

look how the pillow is folded.. so quaint!
Apparently, that's the traditional way..
I had to stack my books below to sleep cos it was too soft

The bridge that links the hotel to the Interspital; "spital" means Hospital in German
this was taken on my trip out to buy lunch

My vegetarian lasagne; because i couldn't understand the menu
i didn't know until too late that it came without meat
but it was good.. and i kept it warm by keeping it on the radiator
(The radiator kept switching off at 4am so i never got enough sleep in Berne)

The Inselspital where i had my presentation
(possibly the only place where you hear english being spoken)
the lift system was mind-boggling but cool..
had this strange panel to call for lifts to the floor you wanted to go to
and the floors were marked alphabetically rather than numerically
@_@
Instructions, of course, only available in German

The flower bed outside Inselspital
I took this after my presentation.. :)

These stumpy trees are an ubiquitous feature of Berne

The old world charm that is Berne's architecture
:)

The same connecting bridge on a sunny afternoon
on the far left of the bridge, i could see the Swiss Alps
well.. if i squinted hard enough ... the sun brings them out, so to speak

The tree lined walk on the left of Hotel Isola..
the streets are narrow and 'hilly', at least to someone coming from flatland Singapore

The entrance sign of Hotel Isola

there are no english signs in Berne.. and the German words are all stringed together
it was almost impossible to comprehend, let alone pronounce
oh.. and when they speak, it's Swiss German..
-faints-
i didn't make myself understood to the waitress at the breakfast room
i've never felt more handicapped by language before.. not even in Thailand

I was invited to dine with the centre director and his wife in the Old Berne..
but as i had to behave (and walk very fast), i couldn't take any pictures
ha..
