Day 3 - Palais de Bercy & shell food dinner

after the cruise, i walked around a bit on the other side of the Louvre

i decided to take the metro back to Bercy..
cos i wanted to make full use of my 1-day pass
ahahaha

funnily enough, i suddenly got enlightened with regards to the platforms
and twice, pple approached me for directions

the first was a spanish-looking guy.. who asked me if i spoke english
i couldn't help smiling from ear to ear.. haha
so.. i told him to take the same line as me and get off where he had to change trains

the next was a lady.. unfortunately, she spoke too fast in french
that i only understood what she said 30 seconds later (after i've run thru it in my mind again)
and i replied automatically that i don't speak french
:P

so this is the omni-stadium that they call Palais de Bercy
maybe that SADM building in NTU is not so original after all
why am i not surprised?

a little boy was nimble enough to go up and down these steps..

The novotel hotel ...

the skate park where many tykes do extreme skate-boarding..

the 'wavy' bridge on River Seine

there were a lot of people.. and also a lot of life-size figurines
i caught this old couple checking our one of them

by then, my feet were aching so badly..
the cobble stone and gravl walk ways were hurting the sole of my feet
i decided to sit down and listen to my mp3.. without an earphone
nobody bothered me anyway
:)

i decided to take a picture of the Metro at Bercy
cos i thought i might not be taking the subway again before i go back

i got back about 430.. and i napped for an hour
at 630, i was downstairs for the dinner with the surgeon

but then..........
we got a call from the surgeon saying that no one was picking him up at the airport
it's obviously not a good thing.. so we started damage control..
..calling the taxi guy, calling Mag (the only SV staff staying in Paris) etc
in the end, we had to ask him to take a cab from the airport..
i managed to get his hotel confirmation printed at the front desk
(i'm finding the Blackberry very very useful)
the 3 of us trooped down to his hotel to wait for him..

this is Hotel Lutetia, the best hotel on the left bank (or is it right?, so Pierre says
i know it costs 260 Euro a night .. so it has to be good

[pictures taken with alvin's Blackberry; i think the camera is its only plus point]

he finally arrived at 8+.. we got him checked in..
and walked to the restaurant where Pierre, our Marketing VP, was waiting
It's called La Coupole, a very parisian french restaurant
it's not dimly lit nor cosy.. but large, bustling and boisterous
still, the tables were crammed

i felt a bit conspicuous cos everyone else at the table was above 40
and.. like.. they've been in this field since the 1980's or something
:X
i learnt a lot though; lots of names and history

the surgeon wanted seafood.. and so we decided to order 2 platters to share
it comes with some dark brown bread and butter
the platter itself has different types of oysters, snails, prawns/lobster/crab etc

so.........
for the first time in my life, i had to eat oyster and snails, every single type on the plate
-shudder-
.. in the name of work..
i just squeezed a lot of lime on the oysters.. at least the snails feel more solid
and i tried to 'chope' the prawns since i didn't have the energy to wrestle with the lobster or the crab
i discovered that prawns go very well with mayonnaise
ha

everyone was happy after the dinner.. which is good
by the time we walked him back to the hotel, it was way past 11..
we got back to the hotel close to midnight..
and i knew i'd sleep well

:)
