St Patrick's Day

Boston, USA
17 March 2012

It was St Pat's day yesterday
so the whole of Boston (or at least the places along The Freedom Trail) was full of green people queueing and getting drunk and generally being very rowdy
There was just no place.. abosolutely no place, we could get into without a long que
Jas says Boston is never this crowded; but i don't believe her
and since i abhor ques, my day passed without a snack or a sit-down

Here they are near Quincy market

and various places in downtown

we missed the Irish dances
but even if we were there, it was too crowded i wouldn't have been able to take pictures
the girls have their wigs and full costumes on
don't they look pretty?

And as we walked back towards my hotel
we saw a lady togged out in full 'regalia', dragging what looks like an enormous sound box, maybe preparing for a performance

It wasn't planned; St Pat's Day only vaguely registered on my mind until yesterday
but i'm really glad i caught it in Boston
even if i'm not sure they know what they're actually celebrating
I suspect it's the Irish wanting an excuse for a carte blanche to consume even more alcohol than they usually do!
and yes, at least 30% of the people we saw were definitely not Irish
hahah
