San Diego

Imperial Ave, San Diego
December 2011

I get less and less excited about trips because I never get to see anything of the place
and anyway, places all tend to look the same after a while
except when enjoyed in good company
but this time, my incentive was that I'd get to spend a weekend with family on my way to work

and there my nephew was, giving me an impish grin
as though I was a regular visitor and he was expecting me
.. instead of us having met just once before in his whole life
and by the time i had to board my flight to San Diego, he'd learnt how to call me TT and i'd fallen in love with him all over again

my hotel room at West Gate was very lush (and super expensive)

.. with a separate walk-in vanity room

however, it was also a good half hour's walk from the conference hotel
So I developed a routine; everyday, i'd have my breakfast
usually a mexican one which is american sized
this one is.. beef and hash brown with poach egg (i forget the mexican name)

then, i'd walk down First Ave through the Martin Luther King Promenade ..
my heels clicking and clacking -_-

with the ducks on my left, and the sun in my eyes;
it was rather warm for December.. but well, it's california

to Harbour Drive, where the Hilton Hotel is
which i don't have a picture of, because it's not picturesque

but oh, I LOVE San Diego
even more the second time round
it's a great mix of quaint and modern, the sun and the sea
with some ethnicity thrown in, with just enough people
great food and shopping and living within walking distance
i.e. a perfect blend of US, UK and Singapore

For 5 days, i felt as if I lived there
and I could easily have done
it's no wonder some people from San Diego say they've never left
