The Appalachian

The Appalachian Mountain Range, Pennsylvania
March 2010

"Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome onboard UA7336, to Pittsburgh. At this time, all blackberries, blueberries, redberries must be turned off. And seat belts must be fastened. I shall demonstrate that with a smile."

And the steward, a tall thin black man with a jolly face, he beamed
he was so much fun that when he finished his safety demo, we clapped

It was 830 on a Sunday and I was on a plane on a runway in IAD
I thought it was a very nice way to start my day, the humour of course
not the fact that i'd had to get up at 530
because my travel agent had messed up my booking
and I was on a flight 5 hours earlier than I wanted

for someone going to a professional meeting, I had a tattoo, striped pink socks and Paul Frank apparel on
i.e. all was normal in my world
=)

Airport staff at IAD were lovely
The chinese man asked if I was Fujian
The lady at the first security gate waved me through, all smiles
A security man worried if I knew which gate I was going to
He was even mildly flirtatious

As I write this, we're flying over the Appalachian mountain range
Darling Papa, who's probably my biggest fan, had looked up the internet
and having found out how close Nemacolin is to the Appalachian,
had requested me to take pics

I do, because we are flying low; a geologist's dream
i love these tiny planes..
the only other time I get to fly in them is when i travel within Burma
if only they'd clean the windows
so i can take clearer pictures
but well.. you can't have everything, can u?

my father loved driving through mountains. Whenever we had some free time during the weekend, we'll drive through Blue Ridge mountains to West Virginia. But that's about as far as we get into the Appalachians. ;)
